2002 It's time for Forgotten's coverage of
the annual piscine promenade in Coney Island! |
This year the fishy frolics contained a new element...Forgotten Fans! Gerry Guadagno (center, in tail) drove a pink hearse to the annual ichthyic iconoclasm, which isn't easy without feet. Joining Gerry were Lizzie and Jill, on the roof, and Monica and Dane, flanking the chartreuse chauffeuse. |
New York's Bravest have occupied a special place in all New Yorkers' hearts of late. On this 85-degree day, the smoke eaters were especially welcome, spraying water on the parched paradegoers. Drought? what drought? The Orange Biker was a constant presence during the parade.
Music was a bigger factor than ever in 2002. There was rock...
...and jug band folk.
Mommy, look at the huge booger on that guy's head!
Here's Lizzie and Gerry on the pink hearse. The Uncle Sam-topped gentleman on the right is Dick Zigun, founder of the Mermaid Parade, Coney Island USA and unofficial mayor of Coney Island.
They call these things crinoids, so I hear.
Can't get enough? Take a look at some shots from last year's Mermaid Parade. Coneyislandusa, the Parade's official website. This guy just flew in from Lot 51 in Roswell, NM, stopping over en route to the Men In Black II premiere.
...swing jazz...
She's just getting into the spirit of things.
Lizzie Grubman indulges in one last fling before a stint in the pokey, maybe.
Here's a girl dressed as a watermelon, I think.
Spongebob makes the scene.
